CAN YOU HELP IDENTIFY THESE VOYAGEURS AND LOCATION?

Once upon a time Baltimore City Voiture Locale 113 Voyageurs showed off their impressive Locomotive, as recorded in this undated photo, perhaps circa 1953. It appears “the same but different” today, especially with the markings of Frederick/Carroll Voiture Locale 155. It was built for VL 113 at the Baltimore & Ohio RR Shop. The story is that it was at some point given to VL 1230, but in 1998 VL155 took ownership and has since refurbished it and it lives again.

This picture showed up in the collection of Nancy A. Baron, consort of Grand Chef de Gare Passe John Baron of Edgewater and Voiture Locale1297. Nancy asked VL155’s Francis Marino if the two locos are the same, ‘If it is I have a very interesting picture you guys should see Nancy gave it to Frank and Norm Covert (VL155 Chef de Gare Passe) adopted it for inclusion in his archives.

If you can identify any of these voyageurs and the location, let us know (Webmaster Phil Jorgensen or Norm Covert)

Here’s A Band O’ Brudders.  One of the projects undertaken by VL155 over the years was the annual ‘Kids Day’ hosted at Frederick’s Francis Scott Key Post 11 on Thanksgiving Day 1959. Voyageurs brought in underprivileged children for a first-class feed at the old Post 11 home on Church Street in Frederick.

The picture also shows off one of the lost traditions “ the Clowns”, who once were a fixture with most Voitures Locale, accompanying the rolling stock or appearing at children’s events.

Of those pictured here, only a couple are still living. The Voyageurs are (front row, from left): Cy Young, Pete Crum (clown), Charlie Korrell; Joe (Brick) Kennedy, who died last winter; and Charlie Gerringer (clown). (Back Row, from left): V. Wiles; Ouke Eyler; Robert E. (Bud) Kennedy (still active); Carme Reeder; Joe Holcroft; Ed Brookey; John Locke; Tadpole Harner; Ray Cliff; and Bill Kennedy, who supplied the photo. A bunch of wonderful guys, Bill reports.
